Today's reminder to "never despise the mundane"
is a quote from Lysa Terkeurst's The Best Yes: Making Wise Decisions in the Midst of Endless Demands.
I appreciated this book very much. You'll probably see a few more quotes from it in the coming weeks.
I loved the above quote because, let's face it, Mom Life is so often mundane.
We do the same things and then we do them again. The jobs that no one else in the family wants to do (or maybe they're not able to do): we do. We soothe hurts. Moms cut grapes in half. We, the mother / housekeepers sweep the kitchen for the umpteenth time (that day!).
We read a bedtime story. And we admire the numerous art projects. We point out caterpillars and robins and intricate leaves and flowers growing in unexpected places to our children.
And there is beauty in all of those things if I am willing to see more than just the Everyday-ness of it.
I'm guilty of despising the mundane in my own life. It's so easy to forget the gift of the everyday.
What I'm Reading Now:
I'm still working on this one:The Fellowship: The Literary Lives of the Inklings: J.R.R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, Owen Barfield, Charles Williams. It's fantastic. (And this week my husband and I are watching the Lord of the Rings movies with our oldest daughter so we've been having quite a few Tolkien / Lewis / problems with movie adaptations types of discussions too.)
