Learning
- Nurturing Children: Why "Early Learning" Doesn't Help by Andrea Mrozek at Institute of Marriage and Family Canada. Long, but interesting. (H/T: Not Inadequate)
- For my fellow homeschoolers - I wrote a guest post this week at The Mommy Mess: I Still Worry About Socialization. If you're a homeschooler, I'd love your thoughts on deliberately helping our children to grow quality relationships.
Living
- How to Be an Obnoxious Money Saver by Kristen at The Frugal Girl.
- Why You May Be Tempted to Neglect Your Church by Tim Challies.
- Our Neglected Practice: An Interview with Justin Buzzard on Sabbath Rest by Gavin Ortlund at TGC. I loved this one. As a pastor's family, setting Sunday aside for the Lord's work isn't something we have to think about, it's just something we do week in and week out. But it isn't rest. (Sorry to admit it, but I have yet to see a ministry family truly rested on Sunday evening.) We encourage others outside the ministry to dedicate Sunday to church attendance and resting. But what would a sabbath look like for a pastor's family? I like this pastor's solution.
- Sex and Sunday School by Megan Hill at CT. Great post (not to mention that title...)!
Loving
- How John Adams Helps Explain The American Mind by Richard Samuelson for The Federalist. Long, but worthy. (So thankful for the recent resurgence of Adams in the minds of political thinkers.)
- French Soldier's Room Unchanged for 96 Years After His Death in WW1 from The Guardian. Poignant.
- 5 British Sports Traditions You Won't Find in the U.S. by Laurence Brown in Mind the Gap. I say, "Bring on the Harvard-Yale Regatta!" It has to be as more fun to watch than most of the dreck that passes for programming these days.
- Expedit Into Card Catalog from IKEA Hackers. Two of my favorite things combined in one brilliant piece. Did I say brilliant yet? Because it totally is.
- Also, today is St. Crispin's day, which means nothing to me. Except you might want to watch one of these: Henry V St. Crispin's Day Speech (Kenneth Branagh), St. Crispin's Day Speech, (Laurence Olivier), or St. Crispin's Day Speech (Tom Hiddleston). Or, you know, you could watch all of them. And then go fight your battle, because you will be FIRED UP.
From my list of 31 Authors Children Love this week covered: Lois Lenski, Arnold Lobel, Mercer Mayer, Robert McCloskey, Laura Numeroff, H.A. Rey, and Michael Rosen. Have I mentioned your child's favorite yet?
