Today's quote about lasting success:

What I'm Reading Now:
After having not much in my stack for several weeks, I loaded up on anything that looked interesting to me at the library last Thursday.
I've already taken 2 of those back (not my cup of tea or not what I wanted) and finished one: The Mingling of Souls: God's Design for Love, Marriage, Sex, and Redemptionby Matt Chandler.
And it's only $3.99 for Kindle right now, so if that sounds like something you'd like to read, I'd jump on that deal. I do recommend it, for married readers.
Recently Added:
Death by Living: Life Is Meant to Be Spentby N.D. Wilson. I special ordered this one after seeing some other Christian Readers I trust quoting it. I'm not sure I love his style, so far, but the content is good.
How to Be a Victorian: A Dawn-to-Dusk Guide to Victorian Lifeby Ruth Goodman. I'm well into this one. My fellow history buffs would enjoy this (or anyone who's ever watched one of those PBS specials like "1900 House" or the like.)
Eye of the Beholder: Johannes Vermeer, Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, and the Reinvention of Seeingby Laura Snyder. Haven't started this one yet. Picked it up based on the subtitle.
How to Be a Heroine: Or, What I've Learned from Reading too Much (Vintage Original)by Samantha Ellis. Haven't started this one either, but, as I've mentioned before, I love books about books and reading.
When the Night Comes: A Novelby Favel Parrett. The flyleaf persuaded me to try this one. Haven't started it yet. It really could go either way: something I'll love or something I won't finish for one reason or another.
Behind the Scenesby Judi Dench. It's nice to have something completely frivolous in the stack every now and then. Judi Dench has had an incredible acting career. She has acted with and for almost any other actor or director you can think of whether on stage, TV, or film. This book, for me, is just for fun.
Recently Finished:
Besides the aforementioned marriage book by Matt Chandler, I also recently finished reading through the Bible again. (ESV, this time) I don't make it through the Bible in a year, but I'd say this took me about 17 months. This version is free for Kindle and I do recommend it. I've started over again with a KJV version on my Kindle. I ordered this one (only $0.99):
I'm not sure how I feel about the formatting yet (each verse stands alone), but otherwise I haven't disliked it. I love the convenience of reading the Bible on my Kindle because I don't have to wait until my bedroom is light enough - I can read it in bed while we still have the curtains closed and without turning on a light.
That may be a silly perk, but I enjoy it.
Current Read Aloud:
We have one chapter of All-of-a-Kind Family and we've already agreed to go on with All-of-a-Kind Family Downtown next. I had honestly forgotten how much I loved these books. All the older girls are listening in on these readings, even though they've already read the books for themselves. Highly recommend them to anyone looking for a good family read-aloud.
Current Book to Review:
Still reading through the devotional book Savor: Living Abundantly Where You Are, As You Areby Shauna Niequist.

Judi Dench is never frivolous!
I read a magazine article on Judy Dench while I was waiting in a doctor's surgery. She sounds like she has a brain and is thoughtful about life & relationships so I'd probably pick up a book on her if I saw one. I'd also grab the Eye of the Beholder just on account of the cover.
That's so hard. I want to have easy successes with no failure or the possibility of it. It is wise, though. Thanks!
