Fiction:Ugh. I downloaded a novel last night to my Kindle that had been recommended by the library algorithm. What I thought I was getting: a Regency story a la Georgette Heyer. What I got: a bodice ripper. Seriously the first chapter alone was full of stuff (situations / language) I'd rather not read. So, returned that one right quick. And now I just need to bleach my eyeballs... We'll file this under "Bookish Mis-Adventures."
Nonfiction:A Landscape with Dragons: The Battle for Your Child's Mind by Michael D. O'Brien. Not exactly what I was expecting and I find myself disagreeing with it quite a bit, which surprises me. Kind of reads like Anthony Esolen on a grouchy, bad day.
Bible: I finished reading through American Standard Version. It's definitely not my new favorite version. Today I started The Amplified Study Bible. I think all the amplification may slow down my progress through it, but that's OK. It's been two years since I read through a study Bible. One bad thing: I thought I bought this from Amazon (on sale) but it turns out that I only borrowed it indefinitely. Which makes me uneasy. Because they could just revoke access at any time, right? Ugh.
Devotional: Send Out Your Light by Sandra McCracken. The quote above comes from this book.
Theology: No Little Women by Aimee Byrd.
Practical: Habits of the Household by Justin Whitmel Earley. Good content but this is somehow the last book I pick up when I'm choosing something from my stack(s). I made some progress this past week. (But how bad is it that as I'm reading this I'm mostly thinking, "Philip should be reading this instead of me...")
Classic: Moby Dick by Herman Melville. I have finished Chapter 16. We're about to meet Captain Ahab, I think. Tension!
Read Aloud:Mountain Born by Elizabeth Yates. I don't think this will be making my daughter's favorites list. (And frankly, I also prefer some of Yates' other books. This might be a good fit for my boys in a year or two, though.)
Audiobook: Nope.
I'm keeping up with my Goodreads account more faithfully these days. I'd be happy to add a few more friends there as well so send me a request if we're not already linked up.
What are you reading now?
P.S. If you think today's graphic looks similar to a few weeks ago, you're right. I'm making do with Canva's free options these days. (I still miss PicMonkey with all my heart.) If you have a favorite source for free photo editing online, I'd love to hear it.
