We're back to real life after our fantastic family trip and I have a few links saved, so let's get on with 'em:
Learning
- I don't necessarily agree with all of this but it's thought provoking: Seven Deadly Progressive Education Myths by Jane Robbins.
- The Federalist Guide to Summer Reading by Mark Hemingway. I cosign several mentions on this list but my own personal reading list has grown too.
- Books that Won't Teach Your Kids to Hate Their Siblings by Anna Mussmann. Have I mentioned lately that I love book lists?
Living
- 3 Reasons I Don't Read Christian Fiction by Rebecca at Life as a Dare. I still have a nostalgic connection to much of the Christian Fiction I read as a teen, but as an adult I agree with these criticisms. I think we need more fiction written by Christians and less "Christian Fiction", but maybe I should just write a post about this some other time.
- How Parents Set Their Kids Up for Success by Rachel Gillett and Drake Baer. With the usual disclaimer "correlation is not causation", I did find this interesting.
- Struggle with Playdates? There are Other Ways to Connect with Friends by Heather MacFadyen at The MOB Society. (For more ideas about adult friendships see my review of Better Together.)
- Bible Study Meets Crafting: The Bible Journaling Craze by Tricia McCary Rhodes for CT. I like this take on the current trend.
- Christians Who Feel Marginalized Should 'Go Local' by Trevin Wax. My husband and I are currently reading Yuval Levin's Fractured Republic, which inspired this advice.
Loving
- Two important essays after the events of this week: You Don’t Have To Be Black Lives Matter To Support Police Accountability by Rachel Lu (written before the tragic events in Dallas) and If You Don’t See The Tragedy In Black Neighborhoods, You’re Not Looking by Rebecca Cusey, both in The Federalist. These are troubled times.
- Lighter fare: Pretending To Be James KA Smith: Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel by Joshua Gibbs for CiRCE Institute.
- Lighter still: Nasa Astronauts and Soviet Cosmonauts are having a Yard Sale at Messy Nessy Chic. Ever wanted to own your own space suit? If you have a spare $25,000 in your piggy bank, this could be your chance.
Last year on Living Unabridged: I shared Four Playlists for Labor and Delivery. It's so hard to believe my baby is one and that I'm probably not going to need these playlists ever again. But maybe they'll inspire someone else.
What caught your eye this week?
