My husband and daughters are canoeing today. Which leaves me and the boys to our own devices. Note: 2 year old boys do NOT like being left behind, ever, but especially when other people are putting on swimsuits and leaving with Daddy. Definitely one of the worst mornings of the iBoy's life. I'd make it up to him by taking him somewhere, but the thought of taking him and his baby brother anywhere by myself makes me shudder. I do have a double stroller and a Moby Wrap Baby Carrierbut just getting the Littles in and out of the van is a lot of work too. (The iBoy's seat is in the back row.)
But necessity may yet triumph over cowardice because there are only so many hours of playing with cars and trains I can stand (and he's still trying to get me to put on his swim trunks!).
Anyway, enough about my problems {wink}, on to the links:
Learning
- You're 100% Wrong About Critical Thinking by Alexander Nazaryan for Newsweek. I don't wholeheartedly agree with this article, but it is thought provoking. (Oh, dear. That sounds like a pun. Critical thinking, thought provoking...moving on now.)
- America's Reading Crisis is Much Worse Than You Think by Sara Kay Mooney for CT. My husband and I have discussed this before: Sunday Schools may need to return to the first mission of Sunday School, which was teaching kids to read while also sharing the gospel. How can people "search the Scriptures daily to see if those things were so," if they can't read?
- Picture Books About London from Carrie at Reading to Know. We don't have a trip to London coming up soon (sigh), but I think we need to add these books to our collection anyway.
Living
- Mothering Through Your Own Emotion by Lisa Whittle for The MOB Society. Great advice here.
- Sisters, Beware the Cloning Wars by Rebekah Hannah at TGC. Women serving in our churches aren't supposed to be Stepford Wives.
- What Can Josh Duggar Teach Us About Keeping Our Boys Pure? by Brooke McGlothlin at The MOB Society. Our sons (and daughters for that matter) really do need to face the consequences for their actions when they're young. It doesn't get easier later.
- Celebrate the Babies Who Live by Joy Pullmann for The Federalist. Sweet. (See also: Ten Reasons it Makes Zero Sense to Support Abortion by Holly Scheer.)
- 7 Sins the Church Ignores by Frank Powell at Relevant. I would say all churches ignore these sins, but it's still a convicting read.
- Why is Having Friends as an Adult So Hard? by Vikki Ledbetter at Relevant. See also: Friends of a Certain Age by Alex Williams in The New York Times.
Loving
- 10 Key Ways to Break the Mass Delusion Machine by Stella Morabito at The Federalist.
- Christian Missions and the Spread of Democracy by Greg Scandlen at The Federalist. Ever wonder why most former British colonies are more successful than other former colonies? It's not coincidence.
- Defining 'American': Birthright Citizenship and the Original Understanding of the 14th Amendment by James Ho. Much in the news and I'm really trying to studying up on what it means.
- In four words why I won't be going to see "War Room": Lazy Writing, Cheap Restoration by Kenneth Morefield for CT.
