What I'm Reading Currently:
Fiction: A Shot in the Dark. First book in a series by Lynne Truss. Pretty funny so far with the same dry humor you'd expect from Truss. (Some of the local references are probably going over my head since I'm not English, but at least I HAVE been to Brighton!) Language warning (including some F bombs) for those who prefer to avoid.
Nonfiction: Pure by Linda Kay Klein. Um...recommended to me for obvious (I guess?) reasons but...this is definitely a problematic title. I'll have more thoughts later (I'm not very far into it).
Bible: I'm almost all the way through the American Standard Version. (I'll finish 1 Timothy tomorrow.) Not one of my favorite versions of the Bible, but I enjoy reading through different versions because something always jumps out at me that I've missed before.
Devotional: Send Out Your Light by Sandra McCracken. Another Christmas gift, this time from my husband. Lovely.
Theology: No Little Women by Aimee Byrd. Picked up a copy of this 2016 book recently. First thing that jumped out at me: how sad it is that a lot of the people Byrd thanks in the acknowledgements have since dropped her or treated her horribly after a more recent book challenged both current power structures and the outright heresy of Eternal Subordination of the Son. But anyway, this particular book comes before all that brouhaha and it's good so far.
Practical: Habits of the Household by Justin Whitmel Earley. Haven't made much progress on this since last week, honestly.
Classic: Moby Dick by Herman Melville. I have progressed to chapter 4, so I've just made the acquataince of Queeqeg. Which, wow. Tense times for Ishmael, right?
Read Aloud: Just started The Twenty-One Balloons with my 11 year old daughter at bedtime. Once again, she was skeptical of my choice and totally hooked by the end of the first chapter. I've never read this one either. (For our read alouds I usually try to read a book that I've somehow missed so far. That way it's exciting for me too.)
Audiobook: Still none. But my time with Sirius XM has sadly come to an end, so I'll probably try one soon.
I'm keeping up with my Goodreads account more faithfully these days. I'd be happy to add a few more friends there as well so send me a request if we're not already linked up.
What are you reading now?
P.S. If you haven't picked up a copy of my daughter's latest game, it's a great price right now!
