Well, another week of quarantine life has gone by. We haven't learned any new languages or written any novels, but we've survived it. We even did our basic school work most days. (But no, not every day.)
I hope each of you that reads this is well and safe.
Non-Coronavirus links:
- M.C. Beaton wrote mysteries prolifically (her Agatha Raisin series made it to 30 titles). She passed away in December and I somehow missed that news until this week.
- Poor Bishop Hooper is a new to me music group and they're working on an extensive project releasing one Psalm per week. I've had their Psalm 1 on constant repeat lately, but they're all good.
- No one was injured so it's OK to laugh: Venezuelan Naval Boat Rams Cruise Liner, Damages Itself, Sinks. Cautionary tale or metaphor, your choice.
Coronavirus / Covid-19 Linkage:
- How to Be a Social Distancing Warrior from Relevant.
- Turns out, "open concept" was not a great plan for everyone's houses: Finding Privacy During the Pandemic - Homes Actually Need to Be Practical Now from The Atlantic. (Another reason I feel grateful: our house was built in 1977. It has an open living / dining space but we can all still find our own corner when we have to. And we've had to.)
- How the virus works: What the Coronavirus Does to Your Body That Makes it so Deadly from The Conversation.
- Sometimes hard to read: A Family's Fetid Week with Coronavirus from The Cut.
- Several people in my house struggle with anxiety so this was a helpful read: Sorting Through our COVID Anxieties by Brad Hambrick.
- Poignant:The Men and Women Who Run Toward the Dying (New York City chaplains) in The New York Times.
- You're Probably Doing it Wrong: Tips for Speaking to a Camera. I've been watching my dad and husband get better at this in real time and many other pastors or church staff are in the same boat. (Helpful hint: no one wants an "up the nose" shot.)
- Eerie pictures: The Great Empty.
- This makes total sense and maybe now we can lay off the accusations of hoarding: What Everyone's Getting Wrong About the Toilet Paper Shortage.
- Language warning but yes, I laughed: We, The Hard-Working, Newly Homeschooling Parents of America, Have Rewritten the Common Core Standards from McSweeneys.
- And another McSweeneys gem: Emily Post's Quarantine Etiquette.
