We've had an unseasonably warm week. Which led to many leaf related adventures. Unfortunately, it rained the night before some of these leaf shenanigans and wet leaves + little girl hair (& skin) = massive mess.
So, I'm kind of relieved that the weather has turned cooler now. Maybe cooler temps will make the leaves less appealing. (Maybe. My children's willingness to be uncomfortable while playing - despite howling about discomfort at any other time - still amazes me.)
Anyway, on with the links:
Learning
- Work Shouldn't Start Until 10 AM and School Even Later, Says Sleep Expert by Peter Dockrill in Science Alert. A to the MEN, says this mom. (Now I can truthfully say Science is on my side if when my late starting family gets going.)
- On Memory (And Classical Conversations) by Heidi at Mt. Hope Chronicles. We don't do CC but this is fantastic round-up of articles about the importance of memorization.
- What Your Teen Must Get From Others, Not From You by Lea Ann Garfias. Great reminder for parents of teens. One important facet of this is modeling. I want my kids to hear me say, "I don't know, I'm going to ask..." or "I don't know how to do that but I'm going to ask [someone's name here] because she does." Our kids, particularly our teens, need to hear the process of how we decide to ask for advice or education, including why we might not ask certain people.
- 5 Minutes to a More Satisfying Homeschool Day by Melissa Camara Wilkins at Simple Homeschool. Great reminder to be intentional.
Living
- Screw Finding Your Passion by Mark Manson. REALLY bad language alert, but this post is fantastic otherwise. (H/T: The Art of Simple)
- Miscarriage and the Confusion of Sinful Grief by Jamie Carlson at TGC. Trusting in the sovereign goodness of God.
- Don't Complain About Debt Culture if You're Perpetuating It by Joy Pullmann at The Federalist. Reality really has to smack some people upside the head sometimes. (Kind of like gravity.)
- LOVED THIS: Do You Have a Really Good Man? from Your Mom Has a Blog. Wives: read this one right now. So good. (I have a great man, for the record.)
Loving
- If Richard Dawkins is Right by Bernard Howard at TGC. Delightfully absurd apologetics.
- "Fixer Upper" is one of our favorite shows and this is part of the reason why: 'Fixer Upper' Couple: Our Family Has Made a Commitment to Put Christ First. (Other reasons: watching house renovations are fun when you're not doing the work and people in this show are actually nice to each other unlike some of the other "house flipping" shows I could name.)
- Paradise Lost at the Moonhole Mansion: An Abandoned Crusoe Dream from Messy Nessy. I find stories like this one fascinating. (Sure would love to see this place for myself!)
