The holiday season is upon us, folks. My husband and I went to a Christmas concert last night. (Thereby breaking my husband's strict "no Christmas music before Thanksgiving" rule. But it was a Getty Concert, so that's acceptable because we also sang In Christ Alone. Just kidding. It was acceptable even if we hadn't sang that song. Some friends gave us tickets and it was a great night, even if the Christmas music moratorium is now on for another week.)
Anyway, what I was saying is it's a busy time. Evidence: we have TWO birthday parties to attend today.
On to the links before we run out of time! {wink}
Learning
- How Do You Grade Math? from Tressays. I can't say we do exactly what Tressa describes but she is wise so I'm taking this advice under advisement.
- Aligning Your Academic Year with the Calendar Year by Dawn at ladydusk. And we don't do this either, but it does intrigue me and Dawn does a great job of explaining how it works. (We're pretty entrenched in our own way now but for those of you just starting with homeschooling you probably want to at least consider this.)
Living
- How to Actually Have a Restful Sunday with Little Children by Jessica Smartt at The Better Mom. I take all the tips I can get in this area.
- The Trap of a Manipulator and the Only Way Out by Allison Vesterfelt. Some of this advice meshes well with Dr. John Townsend's new book The Entitlement Cure.
- Don't Judge Yourself By Social Media Likes by Hadley Heath Manning.
- Related: Rejecting Picture-Perfect in a Facebook World by Stacy Reaoch at TGC.
- Black and White is Not a Black and White Issue by Benjamin Watson for TGC.
- Related: Counting the Cost of Racial Reconciliation by Gaye Clark.
Loving
- 16 of the Worst Ways to Respond to Isis' Paris Attack by Mollie Hemingway for The Federalist.
- Immigration Policy Must Be Based on More Than An Appeal to Compassion by Kevin DeYoung. (My take: the migrant / refugee debate seemed to get ridiculously hostile quickly. Deep breaths, everyone, and we can talk about this like adults.)
- Grace is More Than Letting Someone Off the Hook a review by Tilly Dillehay of Jen Hatmaker's For the Love.
- Ever Wonder Why Americans of the 1930s and 40s Spoke with an Accent? from Messy Nessy Chic. Confession: I love anything to do with accents.
- My husband sent me a link to these "Flag on the Argument" pictures since we're studying formal logic. (click on each image to go to the next.) I really did LOL at some of these.
