The past two weeks have been cuh-razy busy. The kids have taken turns staying with grandparents while my husband and I worked on a lengthy list of house renovations. We've made progress on the list but, as always, the list is longer than our resources (money, time, energy).
Today we pick up our last visiting kiddos and head for a few days off. We haven't taken a family vacation in years so I am really looking forward to the next couple of days, to say the least.

Learning
- Even if you're not a Charlotte Mason homeschooler (I am not), you really need to see this new devotional on her motto "I Am, I Can, I Ought, I Will," from Dawn at Ladydusk. It's completely free but don't let the price tag fool you as to its value.
- 3 Ways Public School Teachers Can Teach More Classically by Eric Wearne at CiRCE Institute. I know homeschooling is not the right option for every family so I truly hope some teachers take these principles to heart. This is the education I wish public schools really offered.
- 3 Reasons Not to Homeschool by Christina Fox at TGC. These three points might be reasons you START homeschooling but they won't help you keep at it for the long haul.
Living
- 5 Reasons Why I'm Not Cut Out to Have a Large Family (Any Why I Have One Anyway) by Kristen Smith. This is one of those posts that I kind of wish I had written. Since I didn't I'll just say, "Me too!"
- What Celebrity Couples Teach Us About Marriage and Divorce by Barrett Johnson at Relevant.
- Waiting Long Enough to Live a Big Story Takes Patience and Lots of Time by Sally Clarkson. Clarkson's writing always encourages me.
- Living Lovely by Heidi at Mt. Hope Chronicles. More encouraging, inspiring words.
- The Pediatrician's Office by Sarah at Clover Lane. We've had similar conversations with our children's pediatrician about how childhood has changed since he started practicing.
- Somewhat related: 5 Ways to Recover the Joy of Summer Vacation by Joy Pullmann at The Federalist.
- How to Have an Adventure With Your Kids Without Feeling Overwhelmed by Sarah Mae at The Better Mom. I think we mothers definitely make this too hard. It turns out "Adventure" for kids is really not as complicated as we make it. Almost anything out of the ordinary serves as an adventure.
- Self-Care and Self-Denial by Amie Patrick at TGC. The two are not mutually exclusive.
Loving
- Scandinavia Isn't A Socialist Paradise by Kelly McDonald at The Federalist. This post responds to several false talking points.
- The Surprising Ways Other Countries Think About Abortion by Aaron Cline Hanbury at Relevant. Helpful comparisons.
- A Short History of Government's Terrible Dietary Advice by David Harsanyi for The Federalist. This is why I don't follow any dietary guidelines other than my own commonsense. {wink}
- This one made me laugh: Carbohydrates: A Love Letter by Heather Wilhelm. Poor Jeb.
- No More Love for Christian Author's Holocaust Romance by Kate Shellnutt at CT. I have very little patience for what passes as Christian Fiction these days. This sort of tone-deafness is one reason why. I am not for censorship, but neither do I think Christians ought to defend bad judgment just because it comes from a fellow Christian.
On Living Unabridged this week: The Gift of Time (10 Reasons I'm Thankful for Homeschooling) and a quote from C.S. Lewis on Reading Great Literature.
What caught your eye this week?
Oh, Karen, what a wonderful endorsement. Thank you, friend.
